PERCUSSION

Its more than just hitting a drum!

WHAT IS
PERCUSSION?

Percussion consists of the drums, tambourine, triangle and the xylophone.

It is everything that you hit to make the sound. If you choose percussion as your number one choice, you get to play a whole range of instruments.

WHERE DOES IT
FIT IN THE BAND?

The percussion instruments sit at the back of the band and a percussionist plays them all!

There are tuned and untuned percussion instruments, this means some instruments have a range of notes so they can play different melodies at different times.

CAN I TRY IT
ON FOR SIZE?

Absolutely!

Book into an Instrument Demo session to try percussion with the guidance of an Upscale Music Teacher. Make sure you list 2 other instrument preferences to try as well as percussion.

HOW DO I KNOW IF IT'S FOR ME?

You like the idea of playing lots of different instruments, swapping between them and being part of a team.

There is lots of sharing, but everyone is always doing something. You need to be reliable and maintain a steady beat. The conductor will depend on you to be focused, watch while you play and be switched on so you can swap between different instruments at the right time.

Most of all you have to be up for a challenge. Percussion is great fun, everyone wants to be in the percussion section in band. We give every instrument player a 6 month experience in the percussion ensemble, before the concert band starts in term 3 with all of the different instruments combined.
